Service Description

14 week course, with 75-minute live class periods. The Innovation Course focuses on a problem-solution approach for solving every day problems around us.  We will read, study, and discuss case studies published in the Harvard Business Review, court decisions that shaped intellectual property strategies and laws, and select books or articles about famous and inspiring innovators like the Wright Brothers, Ada Lovelace, George Washington Carver, Thomas Edison, Hedy Lamarr, Steve Jobs, Benjamin Franklin, and more. We offer three versions of the same live course (see additional information below). Inspire-plus and inspire-and-require students will be required to keep a problem-solution journal, where the students will write down a simple solution to a day-to-day problem they face each day. The journal entries may be as simple or complex as the student wishes, but the key is to start seeing problems around us that we have the ability, resources, and creativity to solve. The course will also require the inspire-plus and inspire-and-require students to listen to select podcast episodes (more information will be on the course syllabus) and watch interviews that I upload to the course site (or YouTube) that highlight inventors and innovators that I have worked with as a patent attorney. We will also hold bi-weekly office hours for inspire-and-require students to receive additional 10-15 minutes of one-on-one mentorship. +++++++++++ We offer three versions of the same live Innovation course, to appeal to different learning preferences and to provide varying levels of accountability. Please choose the level of accountability that best fits your student's needs.   Inspire Only - During the lectures we will seek to inspire the students/scholars to complete additional work outside the classroom, but they will not be required to do so. Inspire-only students will have no accountability, any and all learning will be up to them. Attendance for the inspire-only students will not be kept, homework will not be assigned or collected, and the inspire-only students will not be asked or required to present a technology report in class. We will provide a list of ideas and resources for finding additional information for parents to mentor their students only the inspire-only path.
